History of Kashmeri gate
The Kashmeri Gate is one of the thirteen gates of Walled City of Lahore.
The Kashmeri Gate is one of the thirteen gates of Walled City of Lahore. Inside there is a shopping area and market that is called "Kashmeri Bazaar.Going little further in Kashmiri Gate there is “Chuna Mandi Square”. I really liked the Chuna Mandi district. Here are old mansions. I also belong to Chuna mandi area, this is my life.There is Azam Cloth Market which is a largest shopping area of Lahore city.Many others biggest markets are inside the Kashmeri gate.
Several influential and famous people belong to interior Kashmiri Gate; and now working in almost every field of life.One of them is “Khan Muhammad Dara” The First Fast Bowler of National Pakistan Cricket Team. Famous Hockey players Shahzada Khurram and Shazada Atif, and the popular cyclist and former Olympian Shahrukh are also resident of Kashmiri gate. Famous writer “Anvar Sajaad” lived here for a long period of time.Anvar sajjad also had a clinic near chuna mandi square.
We also can see the remains of several Hindu temples and a sikh Gurdwara near the Kashmeri gate.Girls high school and a girls college are there.The residential areas are rapidly turning into commercial plazas and may be in future we would not even find small traces of ancient buildings.Almost 90% of the residents have shifted to other places selling there homes. Few centuries back River Ravi flew through this point across the wall.Now there is a beautiful garden. People come here for morning walk.
This gate is called The Kashmeri Gate because the road going to Kashmir leads out of it so the Kashmeris lived here.Cars can be parked outside the gate and only pedestrians can enter the gate.
